History Lives!

Unit 1: Class 5 - Ancient Nubia/Kush
(6000 B.C. – 1500) Part 2

Unit 1, Class 5 continues the history of ancient Nubia. It provides insight into daily life in ancient Nubia as well as the role of women in Nubian society. It features a documentary excerpt on Amanishakheto: Warrior Queen of Nubia.  Queen Amanishakheto is legendary for defeating the Romans and preventing them from conquering Nubia during her reign. Along with Unit 1. Class 4, Unit 1, Class 5 sheds light on one of ancient Africa's most enduring civilizations. The history of ancient Nubia is indispensable to the study of ancient Egypt, and African history in general. Despite previous information, it is Nubia, not Egypt that emerged first in the Nile Valley.
