Unit 1: Class 14 - Ancient Egypt: The 25th Nubian Dynasty & Late Period (760 B.C. – 332 B.C.)

Unit 1 Class 14 is the fascinating story of ancient Kemet's (Egypt) 25th Dynasty, whose pharaohs were from Nubia. After ancient Kemet's Third Intermediate Period a Nubian king by the name of Piye launched a military campaign against the Libyan rulers who had taken control and helped establish the 25th Nubian Dynasty of ancient Kemet (Egypt). The Nubians restored much of the art and culture of ancient Kemet (Egypt) and were the last native Black Africans to rule ancient Kemet (Egypt). This class features a documentary that chronicles their rise and fall as well as a slide show of images from their reign. The 25th Dynasty ruled ancient Kemet (Egypt) for nearly 100 years before they were ousted by the Assyrians in 664 B.C. The class ends with a discussion of the Late Period of ancient Kemet in which the Persians ruled from 525 until they were conquered by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C.
