Unit 1: Class 3 - The Beginnings of Civilization

Unit 1, Class 3 features a documentary by renowned British historian, Basil Davidson, who acknowledges the Africanity of ancient Egypt. The documentary, Africa: Different But Equal provides evidence of early African civilizations that thrived before European encounters, and exposes the racism of European travelers and scholars who refused to believe that Black Africans were responsible for establishing such sophisticated civilizations such as ancient Zimbabwe. Unit 1, Class 3 also provides evidence of African genius thousands of years before ancient Egypt or Nubia.

“You are young, gifted, and Black. We must begin to tell our young, There's a world waiting for you, Yours is the quest that's just begun.”
